The guest lecture entitled Media Industry Management in the Digital Era brought by the Department of Communication complemented the academic atmosphere in Ramadhan 2023 at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, UNDIP (10/4), inviting Eni Maryani, Professor of Communication Science, Padjadjaran University, Bandung. The topic was brought by the speaker along with the audience addressing the media industry management which is now closely related to technological developments.

Professor Eni summarized that media management in this era needs to pay attention to various elements, not only journalists, but also editors and business managers. Technology managers in this case is also essential to be discussed. This situation is due to the role of technology in distributing and grabbing a wider audience. Today’s journalistic works are no longer filtered only by the editorial team, but also by the technology in which the content resides. Not only participating in curating the various content that will be displayed, media technology is also given the ability to recommend works that are suitable for readers.

Readers of digital media are spoiled with fast-paced, and content that relates to them. Meanwhile, the backstage of the industry also needs to adapt, converge, and synchronize with various tools and other new arrangements. Crucial aspects such as resource management increasingly be a concern in media management in this digital era. In her presentation, Professor Eni also added that the regulations that need to be considered in this management are no longer laws related to the press and media but also technology, data protection, and labour.

Enthusiasm was seen from participants who asked various questions related to the topics presented. Dr. Sunarto, lecturer of the Department managing this event, stated that the students participating the guest lecture had taken internships in various media. Apart from that, the students of Communication Science Department, Diponegoro University, are also managing digital media that they have built previously. These backgrounds also enriched the academic conversation which at the same time discussed the practical side that has been or is being experienced by the participants in this hybrid event.
