Semarang – Tuesday, June 28, 2022, a Batch 3 Independent Internship Campus sharing session was held by the Communication Science Student Association Advokesma. This event was attended by Communication Science students who wanted to take part in an independent internship program. This event invited Naura Iftika, Nadia Hutaminingtyas, and Luthfi Maulana Adhari, Communication Science students who had carried out the independent internship program in the previous batch as speakers.
Sharing sessions are carried out with the hope of providing information and adding insight to Communication Science students who want to take part in the independent internship program. By presenting speakers who have participated in the program, participants get information about the internship experience, from pleasant experiences to unpleasant experiences.
The Independent Internship Campus is part of the Merdeka Learning policy by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology which provides opportunities for students to hone their abilities according to their talents and interests. This program is carried out by sending students into the world of work as preparation for their future careers.
This program offers credit conversion with a maximum conversion of 20 credits. This is certainly very interesting because students can explore their knowledge and abilities in the field for one semester and still take 20 credits. Usually, internships only get 3 credits of conversion, but the Independent Apprentice offers a fairly large conversion.
However, it should be noted that the activities offered in the Independent Internship are by the courses offered by the campus. If the activities offered are different, then we cannot convert credits. Therefore, make sure that the program you want to take is in line with the college major you are taking.
“What needs to be considered is that lecturers are very selective in choosing courses, they must be by the job desk during the internship. Because many job desk cases are different from courses, so at the Merdeka Internship, we take the one that is linear with our major,” said Luthfi Maulana Adhari.
Internships have several benefits that can be obtained by students, such as increasing experience and knowledge about the world of work. However, in particular, when compared to regular apprenticeships, Independent Apprentices have several advantages, such as:
– Can be converted into 20 credits
– Can be done even though you haven’t taken 100 credits
– Get pocket money from Kemendikbud-Ristek
– The internship time is more mature because it is carried out for one semester. This of course opens up opportunities to work for the company.
– Making proposals easier
Compared to an ordinary internship which only takes 30 working days or 6 weeks, the Independent Internship certainly has more value. One month is usually only enough time to adapt to the company environment, while within 6 months, students have passed the adaptation period to really feel what it’s like to work in a company.
For students who are interested in joining the Independent Campus Internship Batch 3, it is necessary to pay attention to the activity timeline. The following is a timeline of independent internship activities:
- June 6–July 10, 2022: Enrollment of students in programs of interest through the Merdeka Campus platform
- 20 June–22 July 2022: Announcement of student selection by partners
- 18–29 July 2022: Complete the required administration before the program starts
- August 1, 2022–end: Program implementation
