Semarang – Outstanding Student Election (Pilmapres) is a student competition organized by the Directorate General of Learning and Student Affairs under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) which is held annually.

This year, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Diponegoro University also held a Student Achievement Selection to find the best students from the five majors in FISIP. The Student Achievement Selection aims to give appreciation to students who have successfully achieved high achievements both in the academic and non-academic fields. As for other aspects of assessment, such as being able to communicate well using Indonesian and English, having good behavior, and high nationalism.

In the previous year Communication Science was proud of the success of Tjen, Maurilia Zerlina, a 2018 Communication Science student, as the 1st winner of Mawapres Mapping FISIP Undip 2021. This achievement was followed by the coronation of Devina Meidy Fidelia, a 2019’s Communication Science student who won 1st place in Mawapres Mapping FISIP Undip 2022. Communication Studies won 4 consecutive years of victory over the Pilmapres of FISIP Undip.

How to Become Outstanding Students

In selecting outstanding students, students need to be physically and mentally prepared to be brave enough to participate in this competition.

“My biggest motivation in participating in the Pilmapres yesterday was the principle of being inspired to inspire, we need to be inspired to inspire others,” said Devina when expressing her motivation to participate in the FISIP Pilmapres.

“Mawapres is one of the events that can bring me together with many other great people to motivate me to develop changes in myself for the better so that later I can spread similar positive spirits and vibes to others,” she added.

Student achievement is not only seen from a high GPA, but also activeness in activities outside of lectures. This was proven by Devina when telling her about her process of deepening her experience and insight by joining in several activities in leadership forums, organizations, volunteers, and participating in competitions that can support her soft and hard skills.

Devina also shared tips from her that can help other fellow students to be able to prepare themselves for participating in the Pilmapres within the faculty and university scope.

“A tip from me may further reduce my self-doubts. Try to be more confident in trying various things, including the Mawapres list. From now on, it has been carefully prepared and improved: the intention, determination, and the ability to become the next Mawapres candidate, “said Devina.

“Maybe during the trip, we will feel tired and sometimes we can also be demotivated, but believe me, amazing patience will be well rewarded,” continued Devina, encouraging other Achieving Student candidates.

Serious Role of the Department of Communication Science in Pilmapres

Elected as a candidate for FISIP Undip 2022 mawapres, Devina admits that she has experienced many ups and downs in each process. Devina revealed that the entire series of FISIP Mapping Pilmapres activities are arguably not easy and quite draining and time-consuming. However, he feels proud and honored to have the opportunity to contribute to the name of the Department of Communication Sciences. At the same time, he also felt happy because the competition brought him to wider networking.

She said that during the 2022 FISIP Undip Pilmapres, she felt helped by the role of the Department of Communication Science in providing support and accompanying her during the selection process for the competition.

“Especially to Mbak Uli as the supervisor who always tries to find her time to help me during her various activities. Preparations were indeed very short and we were all pressed for time, but together, thank God it was well passed,” said Devina.

Not to forget, she expressed hope for the Selection of Outstanding Students, both faculty and university mapping so that it can be run better and future student achievers can contribute to bringing a good name and impact to the university.

“Hopefully in the future, the selection of Mawapres can be even better and produce young people who can continue to carry Undip‘s good name on and off-campus,” she concluded.
