Semarang – Starting from sensitivity and concern for the surrounding natural environment, the Department of Community Service, HMPS Undip Communication Studies, established a go green campaign program. Taking place during the pandemic, Karin Pehulisa, Chief Executive of Teduh Wilis, released the campaign with an online system, namely by utilizing Instagram social media.

This campaign program is none other than to educate the public regarding the preservation of the surrounding natural environment through technological developments, especially Instagram as the social media most popular with young people. In the form of an online campaign, Instagram @teduhwilis began releasing uploads on May 14.

Teduh Wilis runs an online campaign through three basic approaches to the go green movement, including: reduce, an effort to reduce the volume of waste; reuse, reuse of tools that have been used; and recycle, reprocessing waste into useful goods.

Having a focus on disseminating information related to the importance of protecting the surrounding environment, Teduh Wilis means a platform for the struggle to protect the greenness of the earth. Teduh, in KBBI (Big Indonesian Dictionary), means relaxed and protected. In Javanese, Wilis means green. From the meaning of these two words, Teduh Wilis is expected to be able to act as an intermediary for social media users to contribute to protecting the natural environment.

Still related to the meaning of Teduh Wilis, the logo also raises a profound meaning about the surrounding natural environment.

Regarding the logo itself, the shape of the upper leaves symbolizes the visualization of green leaves which seem to be an umbrella to explain the meaning of plants. Furthermore, this visualization explains that the leaves are used as a shelter for all ecosystems and human life. Then the brown color in the middle defines the whole land, such as mountains, valleys, and hills as human efforts to protect and care for the land. Finally, the blue color at the bottom elaborates on all waters that are synonymous with protecting the earth’s waters.

“I hope that Teduh Wilis can become a go green campaign that is informative, educative, and persuasive so that the Instagram audience is aware of the importance of protecting the environment, and can apply the 3R (reduce, reuse, recycle) efforts in everyday life,” explained Karin Pehulisa, Head of Project Teduh Wilis.

To realize the work program of the Community Service Department, HMPS Undip Communication Science provides support and permits for the holding of a go green online campaign. Of course, the existence of Teduh Wilis can be used as a forum where Communication Science students can also become a community mobilizer with campaigns through Instagram.

“The Undip Communication Science Department and Undip Student Association of Communication Studies gave permission to hold a go green campaign, and participated in voicing so that this campaign could mobilize the masses to care more about the environment,” Karin concluded.
