THE COMMUNICATION DEPARTMENT

The Communication Department was established in 1967 under the name of ‘Jurusan Publisistik’ (The Publicity Department), and was a part of the Faculty of Law and Society. The name was then changed to Communication Department in 1984. In 2007, the Communication Department applied the curriculum with two focuses of interest: Strategic Communication and Journalism. In 2020, the Journalism major was changed into Multimedia Journalism and Content Creative, along with the remaining focus in Strategic Communication.
The Communication Department received the highest grade (A) of accreditation at the first time when accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN PT), and maintain to hold the position ever since. The Communication Department of Diponegoro University has had many joint collaborations and partnerships with domestic and overseas universities for the purposes of student exchange programs and curriculum development. Collaborations are also carried out with various institutions and companies in the field of journalism and strategic communication, especially for the benefit of student internships and graduate career opportunities.

FOCUS OF INTEREST (MAJOR)
Multi Media Journalism and Creative Content
The Multi Media Journalism and Creative Content aims to bring forth professional journalists who are skilful to design and carry out professional work in the field of multi-platform journalism (print, electronic, new media) and digital entrepreneurial venues based on the journalistic code of ethics. In addition, graduates will have the advantage of managing journalistic projects and the capacity to design creative contents, and carry out communication research with qualitative and quantitative approaches to be presented in scientific forums and published in scientific journals.
Strategic Communication
The strategic communication major is intended to generate strategic communication professionals with the capacity of designing and carrying out professional work in the field of strategic communication (business/social/political marketing communications, advertising, public relations), while still adhering to the conduct of professional code of ethics. Graduates also have the advantage of managing projects in the strategic communication field under the supervision and collaboration with professionals in the field. In addition to professional skills, this major also provides expertise for graduates to carry out strategic communication research with qualitative and quantitative approaches to be presented in scientific forums and published in scientific journals.
