On Saturday, August 3, 2024, Hutari Indah Nuranti, a student from Team II of Universitas Diponegoro’s Community Service Program (KKN), organized an important campaign themed “Anti-Hoax and Data Theft” at the Majegan Village Hall. This campaign aimed to educate the villagers on the importance of discerning the information circulating on social media and raising awareness of online fraud.
Amid the rapid technological advancements and the increasing use of social media, the public is often exposed to inaccurate and potentially misleading information. Additionally, the threat of personal data theft through phishing and online scams has become increasingly alarming.
In her presentation, Hutari Indah Nuranti explained the various types of hoaxes commonly found on social media and the negative impacts they can have if believed and disseminated. She also provided the villagers with guidelines on how to identify fake news and emphasized the importance of verifying information before sharing it with others.
Moreover, the campaign highlighted the dangers of personal data theft, often occurring due to a lack of public awareness about online privacy protection. Hutari offered practical tips for safeguarding personal data, such as using strong passwords, avoiding clicking on suspicious links, and being cautious when sharing personal information on social media.
The campaign received a warm response from the residents of Majegan Village. They actively engaged in discussions and shared their experiences with various forms of online fraud they had encountered. Many villagers expressed that they found the explanations and tips provided to be helpful, as they often felt confused and unsure of how to handle questionable news or suspicious messages on social media.
Through this campaign, it is hoped that the residents of Majegan Village will become more discerning in their use of social media and be better equipped to protect themselves and their families from the threats of hoaxes and data theft in the digital world. This activity represents a tangible contribution from Universitas Diponegoro’s KKN students in providing relevant and beneficial education to the community.***
