Semarang, 12 September 2025 – The Department of Communication Science, FISIP Undip, in collaboration with ASPIKOM Jateng–DIY, organized an International Research Roundtable with the theme “Global South Dialogues: Brazil–Indonesia Perspectives on Technology, Digital Communication, and Society” on Friday, 12 September 2025, at the Antawirya Meeting Room, Building A, 1st Floor, FISIP UNDIP.

This event brought together researchers from Indonesia and Brazil to present their latest research on issues of digital communication, technology, and society. The event was made possible through the collaboration of FISIP UNDIP with the Communication Science Higher Education Association (ASPIKOM) Jateng–DIY Regional Coordination, as well as support from various partner universities, including Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF), Yogyakarta State University, Satya Wacana Christian University, Dian Nuswantoro University, and Soegijapranata Catholic University.

The series of events was divided into three main sessions, including a research methodology lecture by Prof. Thaiane Oliveira (UFF, Brazil), as well as research presentations from academics of both countries. Several key topics discussed included public trust in science, disinformation, the role of digital media in public health, and community- and culture-based communication phenomena.

As the Head of the Digital Technology and Society Research Cluster, S. Rouli Manalu, Ph.D., emphasized the importance of this forum in strengthening research networks in the Global South. “Academic cooperation between Indonesia and Brazil not only enriches research in digital communication but also opens critical reflection on the shared challenges faced by Global South societies. Through this forum, we hope new perspectives will emerge that can make real contributions to the development of knowledge and public policy,” said Rouli.

This event also served as a momentum for FISIP UNDIP to demonstrate its commitment to advancing international research focused on strategic global issues, particularly those related to technology, communication, and society.
