On August 20, 2024, Adinda, the writer who is currently participating in the Community Service Program (KKN) of Universitas Diponegoro, carried out a work program with the theme “Digital Literacy: An Effort to Prevent Stunting in Kayen Village”. This activity aims to enhance the community’s understanding, especially among mothers, about the importance of preventing stunting through digital literacy. The event took place at one of the Early Childhood Education Centers (PAUD) in Kayen Village, with mothers as the main participants.

Stunting is one of the significant health concerns in Indonesia, including in Kayen Village. There are several cases of stunting in Kayen Village. One such case involves Sahita, a 1-year-old child. Sahita has a height, head circumference, and body weight below the standard for her age, indicating a potential risk of stunting. To help address this issue, the writer developed a digital literacy program specifically designed to educate about stunting. The village mothers were encouraged to become more technologically literate to access accurate and relevant health information through digital media.

The activity began with an interactive counselling session, where the participants were introduced to the basic concepts of stunting, its causes, long-term effects, and prevention methods. In addition, the writer also taught how to use digital applications that can help monitor children’s health and ensure they receive adequate nutrition. The participants were also provided with important information accessible through digital platforms, such as health websites, stunting prevention applications, and educational content on social media. Examples include websites managed by WHO, UNICEF, the Ministry of Health, the State Secretariat, and other sites that regularly upload information related to stunting. The writer also introduced the Prima-Ku application, which collaborates with the Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDAI) to monitor children’s growth and development.

As a result of this activity, the writer produced an output in the form of a booklet titled “Knowing about Stunting Matters” This booklet serves as a simple guide for mothers in Kayen Village to understand what stunting is, how to prevent it, and the steps they can take to ensure their children’s growth is not compromised. The booklet also includes information on the importance of maintaining a healthy diet, and hygiene, and tips on using technology to obtain accurate information.

The event concluded with a question-and-answer session, where participants could directly discuss with the KKN team the challenges they face related to stunting and children’s health. The mothers were highly enthusiastic, as evidenced by the numerous questions asked and their seriousness in following each session. One of the questions raised by Mrs. Putri was about how to access the websites provided. This question was then thoroughly answered by the writer.

With this digital literacy activity, it is hoped that the mothers in Kayen Village will become more aware and proactive in seeking information related to children’s health, especially in the efforts to prevent stunting. The writer hopes that this program will have a positive long-term impact on the Kayen Village community, particularly in creating a healthier generation free from stunting.
