Semarang – The Open Debate annual agenda for the Candidate Pair for Chair and Deputy Chair of the Student Association of the Communication Studies Program (HMPS Ilkom) Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Diponegoro University, was held online on December 27, 2021 at 10.00 WIB via Microsoft Teams.
The pair of candidates who came forward this year were Michael Lucky, a class of 2019 student and Akmal Muzakki, a class of 2020. The presentation of the Grand Design Organization (GDO) by the candidate pair was the core of this event which was guided by Nofiyanti Rezky Utami as the Master of Ceremony (MC).
Lucky opened the presentation by explaining the background of the cabinet naming. According to him, the phenomenon of digitalization makes HMPS able to become a pioneer and a more modern organization and to achieve this goal, active collaboration is needed. So, he chose the name Collaborative Cabinet to clarify the organization’s goals.
“Collaborative Cabinet exists in the spirit of togetherness. We want to make HMPS a place to channel ideas and aspirations, and promote collaboration with lecturers, alumni, and others,” added Lucky.
There are several excellent programs designed by Lucky and Akmal, including Comm Career Preparation, Internship Insight, Comms Leader Camp, and Ilkom Champion. This cabinet offered to change the name of the Department of Human Resources Development (HRD) and R&D (Research and Development) to become KPSDM (Caderization and HRD) and Research (Research and Achievement).
Entering the question and answer session, the audience was invited to provide questions, aspirations, and criticisms regarding the ideas that have been proposed by the candidate pairs for the Collaborative Cabinet. Four questioners were selected, three of whom were representatives from the BEM FISIP, HMPS Ilkom, and students from Ilkom.
The first question was asked by Feyza Syifa as the representative of BEM FISIP. Feyza asked about how the candidate pair builds collaboration with other FISIP ormawa and what concrete steps will be taken in involving alumni in collaboration.
Lucky answered the question by explaining that each ormawa has its own role and characteristics which, when combined, can complement each other. He also referred to the inter-organizational forums that had been well implemented. Furthermore, Akmal completed Lucky’s answer by answering questions related to collaboration with alumni.
“One of the concrete steps in collaboration with alumni is the implementation of Comm Career Preparation which accommodates alumni to share experiences with students,” said Akmal.
The second question came from representatives of HMPS Ilkom, namely Azka Tsania who previously served as Chair of HMPS 2021. Azka highlighted what strategies the candidate pair could develop in growing a sense of belonging with the online system and how to measure its success.
Lucky and Akmal answered that there is an Internal Division within the KPSDM Department which will create programs to maintain relations between HMPS members, one of which is a member appreciation program in the form of Staff of the Month.
Then, Muhamad Afi representing Ilkom students asked how the analysis carried out by the candidate pair led to the vision, mission, and core values in the GDO. Based on Akmal’s presentation, the experience that has been experienced as a member of the HMPS has made the candidate pairs know what are the shortcomings in it so that it needs to be evaluated with a new work program listed in the GDO.
Finally, the question came from Raihan Triaffandra, a 2017 student of Communication Sciences and the Chair of HMPS 2020. Raihan asked about what concrete steps would be taken to collaborate with active lecturers and students. Lucky answered this question by stating that collaboration with active students can be done through a work program that has been planned and for collaboration with lecturers it can be in the form of research and service.
“Let’s build Communication Science together in the future. We really need advice, help, and support from all of our friends so that what we have initiated in the GDO can be realized. We are not here to change the existing order, but to modernize HMPS to make it even more amazing,” concluded Lucky.
