Semarang – Faculty of Social and Political Sciences Universitas Diponegoro along with the Ranking Office Undip had successfully held a discussion with the alumni entitled Alumni Networking Talkshow Universitas Diponegoro Batch 3 Faculty of Social and Political Sciences: “Synergizing Building the Nation” on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, via Zoom Meeting and was broadcasted directly on the Undip FISIP Youtube channel. The talkshow started on time at 19.30 and was moderated directly by Vice Dean I of FISIP Undip, Dr. Teguh Yuwono, M. Pol.

This event attracted the attention of up to 500 participants consisting of alumni, educators, and students. Through her welcoming speech, Dessy Ariyanti, Vice Head of Ranking Undip, revealed that the purpose of that event was to develop Undip to become an excellent university.

“Strive for the next 10-20 years as a world-class university, Undip needs to follow several performance indicators, such as academic reputation, the reputation of employees, students, faculties, research, service, and so on,” she explained.

This was warmly welcomed by Yogi Arief Nugraha, an Alumnus of Communication Science Undip who now served as Vice Editor in Chief of Kompas TV. Yogi believed that alumni could contribute as the campus’ brand ambassadors who could give more value to the alma mater.

“What is a campus Brand ambassador? Yes,it is the campus’ PR when the information is fulfilled, an influencer for the campus, a motivator for the younger generation and for campus students, as a mentor when there is something related to work, being a supporter, and so on, “explained Yogi.

Yogi continued, being a brand ambassador required shrewdness in the social media movement. This could maintain the existence of the alma mater by converting noise into voice.

“If you want to be ranked, you want people to see you, you have to go into the orbit. Simply like me in the media, there are several observers from Undip with certain specialists that appear, once a tweet from which the account is verified could be a quote by the mass media, then the most important thing is content as a moral call and showing the existence, change the noise into voice, ” he continued.

In order to fulfil that matter, Yogi emphasized the importance of collaboration between Undip and its alumni. He invited the University and alumni to prioritize the synergy in building a good reputation. “At least, Undip and its alumni have a relationship and reputation by emphasizing the collaboration,” he said.

In establishing the collaboration, Yogi said the importance of the bond between the University and alumni, in this case, Yogi explained the importance of a personal approach to each alumnus and a capable database.

“For collaboration, before the collaboration there is engagement, the database becomes important (in engagement) hopefully it can be realized more operationally, yet personal approach is rarely done. I think it is important to do a model like this in parallel while preparing a database, then the academic community may greet one by one, which is made possible by any digital means,” he explained.

Yogi added that flexible and humble communication was also needed so as to be able to provide mutual respect, according to Yogi, this is needed to form emotional relationships, open communication channels and create a space for empowerment.

“It is necessary to create a humble relationship to build emotional relationships, open up any communication channel, and empower space,” he added.

The talkshow was closed with responses from the Dean of FISIP Undip, Dr. Drs. Hadi Warsono, MTP who praised that discussion. The top leader of FISIP Undip said that his party was glad to receive all responses from alumni through the Vice Dean I for Student Affairs.

“It’s nice to hear the discussion, it is amazing that all of them have one understanding between the campus and alumni and how the alumni networking mechanism is. Vice Dean I will accept good ideas from the alumni,” he concluded.
