Semarang – The Community Service Team of the Department of Communication held a Media Literacy discussion with teachers in Semarang regarding the application of health protocols in face-to-face school preparation. The discussion took place online through the Google Meet platform on Saturday, May 29, 2021. This activity was spearheaded by the Community Service Team of the Department of Communication Science which consisted of lecturers including Muchamad Yuliyanto, S. Sos., M. Si., as chairman, Dr. . Hedi Pudjo Santosa, Dr. Adi Nugroho, M. Si., Agus Naryoso, S. Sos., M. Si., and Primada Q. Ayun, M. A. as members.
By raising the topic of “Media Literacy: The Role of Teachers in Educating Obeying the Covid-19 Health Protocol in Face-to-Face School Preparation”, the teachers involved gave great enthusiasm because of the relevance of the theme according to the needs of welcoming face-to-face schools. This discussion was also attended by 23 participants who were interactive during the activity.
The implementation of this Media Literacy discussion is an educational effort to implement health protocols so that they can run according to the policy guidelines of the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud).
This was confirmed by the Head of the Undip Communication Science Community Service Team, Muchamad Yuliyanto S. Sos., M. Si. when explaining the purpose of holding the webinar, “Media Literacy invites teachers to educate parents and students to obey the Covid-19 health protocol,” said the lecturer who is familiarly called Mas Yul.
The Undip Communication Science Community Service Team also said that all educational activities were aimed at encouraging the implementation of health protocols in schools when face-to-face learning took place due to the characteristics of students who were still under parental supervision. In addition, the teacher’s role is also very important in educating students to carry out health protocols. Thus, teachers are at the forefront of the school environment to maximize the implementation of health protocols, such as wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
Not to forget, this discussion also discussed the readiness that schools have made for face-to-face learning, including by vaccinating educators and committing to implementing health operational standards, such as increasing the number of sinks and managing student capacity.
Finally, Dila, a teacher at the Pelangi Nusantara Character School, Gunungpati, Semarang, stated that the tips and Communication strategies, as well as the material presented by the lecturer team in the Media Literacy discussion, were very useful to apply.
“Community service like this is very important for us to maximize our face-to-face preparations next July while still paying attention to the existing Covid-19 health protocols,” concluded Dila.
