The Ins and Outs of FISIP Undip Communication Science
- Rouli Manalu, Ph.D. as the Head of the Undip FISIP Communication Studies Study Programstarted Visco 2021 by introducing Undip, the FISIPOrange campus, and the Communication Science Study Program to all participants. The Department of Communication Studies consists of two study programs, namely S1 and S2 study programs.
“The S1 program has a vision, which is to aim and be committed to becoming a high-quality educational institution. Undip communication is a fairly long study program. Since there is an accreditation system we have always received accreditation A. This year our goal is to get international accreditation from accreditation agencies in Europe. Apart from that, Ilkom has a mission to carry out quality assurance-based Communication Studies education,” explained Rouli.
Rouli also informed the participants about the pathways to becoming Undip Communication Studies students. According to his explanation, there are two programs at Ilkom Undip, namely the regular class and the international class or IUP.
“In Ilkom Undip, lecturers are very close and egalitarian with students, and open communication which is equivalent to calling mas or mbak. Undip Communication Science lecturers have national and international qualifications. Besides, lecturers also conduct several studies, such as digital media and communication technology, political communication and social media, women studies and feminism, cultural studies and minority studies, to media and journalism studies, ” she said.
Not to forget, Rouli also explained the division of concentrations and areas in which Communication Science program graduates could take part, namely Strategic Communication, Journalists and Creative Content, as well as researchers or analysts. Before closing the material session, he also added information related to tuition fees and prospects for Undip Ilkom graduates.
“School or university does not guarantee the success of friends, but school or university will provide opportunities and provisions for the future. Success is given by the interaction and resources that friends can get, “concluded Rouli.
Become an active student
Diva Sinar Rembulan is unquestionably active. In 2020, he was elected as deputy chairman of the BEM FISIP Undip. On the occasion, Diva shared his experiences of being an active student at the department, faculty, and university levels.
He showed the organizations and committees in the Department of Communication Science and FISIP that students could participate in. Diva also gave an overview of the opportunity to enter the competition.
“There are so many competitions that you can participate in from national or international. Examples of competitions that are well-known among Ilkom Undip students are Ajisaka and Epicentrum,” said Diva.
Not to forget, Diva also told about events that were close to Ilkom students such as PMB, Familiarity Gathering, Welcome Party, and Student Achievement (Mawapres).
At the end of the session, Diva explained what he had gotten at the Undip Communication Science. According to him, the lecture period is a period where students can take a peek at the reality, before finally plunging into the world of work. He admitted that Communication Science is not as simple as it sounds, during college he did not only learn communication but more than that.
Communication Science in The World of Work
This session was delivered by three alumni who currently have stable careers, namely Aditya Aji Nugraha, Efrilia Wahyu, and Yeremi Sihombing. The three alumni started the session by telling about the usefulness of the material during college in the world of work.
Aji admitted that everything he did during college was very useful for him, especially when there was an SCTV Goes to Campus event. Meanwhile, Yeremi feels that the most impact on her current job is the material for public speaking, the basics of communication, and the communication campaign. And for Efrilia, interpersonal communication is the most used subject for networking, besides that, the tasks in the form of projects that are often given make her more able to manage time distribution.
Before ending the session, Aji, Yeremi, and Efrilia shared the most memorable personal experiences of all the things that have been passed. Being good at managing time, having the opportunity to experience international monitoring, and the balance between academic and social are the most memorable experiences for the three alumni of Communication Science who are successful examples of Undip Ilkom graduates.
“At least we have to see that we still have a huge opportunity to find work, both in government and private sector. Maybe those who are still in high school are still confused about whether to go to college or not. My advice is to continue to study because there we can get a lot of things. Undip has a very large network, besides that the cost of living in Semarang is not very large compared to other big cities. When you know you want to vote for Undip, FISIP is one of the choices because the relationship between the forces is very close, “Aji concluded.
UTBK success tips
Aldian Alfaridz, who is a 2019 ITB Engineering Management student, started the session by inviting participants to know in advance the original purpose of taking part in UTBK-SBMPTN. Then, Aldian explained the focus on system technique while preparing for UTBK. According to him, all UTBK participants have the same goal, namely passing the SBMPTN and being accepted at the PTN of their dreams.
“We can build a focus on a system with the mindset that we are warriors. Before I studied, I always reminded myself that I was a warrior. There are so many smart people out there, what can tell the difference is the intensity of the craft. To be able to compete with them, we have to be more diligent, “said Aldian.
Aldian also emphasized that a target without a clear plan is just hope. He also advised the participants to make learning targets in the form of weeks or days. Before ending the session, Aldian motivated the participants to continue to struggle by providing various learning tips, the key was consistency.
