Semarang – Commcup is part of the Commweek event held by the Student Association of the Department of Communication, FISIP Undip. In 2020, Commcup has the theme “When Distance Separate Us, We Can Still Have Fun”. Unlike previous years that carried the concept of futsal matches between high schools in Semarang, in 2020 Commcup carries the concept of an e-sports tournament. This is due to a pandemic so that the Commcup committee inevitably has to change the design of the event to suit the possible situation.
According to Adam’s explanation, Chairman of the 2020 Commcup, Commcup has quite a long preparation. Preparations have been made since one month after Commcup 2019 was over. However, things that have been designed are in vain because of the Covid-19 outbreak in Indonesia. In June, the committee drafted a new plan where the activities could be carried out online.
“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we made a change of direction and decided to change the concept of Commcup to an e-sports tournament event around June 2020. The event itself took place from 26 to 29 October,” said Adam, (11/12).
The target audience for Commcup, which was originally high school students in Semarang, turned into all e-sports players in Indonesia, especially Mobile Legend and PUBG Mobile players. Even so, Commcup still has many participants participating. Commcup provides slots for 25 teams per branch race.
Commcup itself aims to be a forum for the interests and talents of the participants who participate. Besides, with the theme of the e-sports tournament being raised, the Commcup committee wants to break negative perceptions related to online games.
“The aim of the 2020 Commcup is a forum for e-sports players in Indonesia to develop their talents and interests. Apart from that, we also want to solve the negative stigma regarding online gaming itself, ”said Adam.
In the implementation itself, the Commcup committee has several obstacles. One of them is the lack of knowledge of the Commcup committee about e-sports. Therefore, the Commcup committee decided to collaborate with the Diponegoro E-sports Community (DEC) for the smooth running of the Commcup event.
“There are only a few Commcup committees who have basic knowledge of e-sports, therefore we are bringing together Diponegoro E-sports Community (DEC) to work together to help run this Commcup event,” said Adam.
Adam himself as Chairman of the Commcup in 2020 expressed his hope that in the future Commcup can continue to be a successful and proud event. He also hopes that the name Commcup, especially Commweek, will become a name that many people know and look forward to.
“The hope for the future is that it will continue to be a successful, festive, and proud event. Hopefully, the name Commcup and even more so the name Commweek itself can be known and its presence is always eagerly awaited by everyone, “Adam concluded.
